Okay...
As an unsigned artist in this new-age industry has its ups and downs. For all of those who don't know what its like... let me break it down for you. For listeners who see you unsigned either believe you are unsigned because you either have no talent, or just started. Well neither of those items are true. In this new age industry, Major Labels are not looking to spend all the money for artist development and invest simply because you have "talent". You have to provide your own since of stability; i.e. fans, plays, merchandising, sales. Which makes you ask... Why do you want to be signed? Answer is... most people want that exposure so they can further their empire. Me... i'd rather have an investor to help my product reach the masses and let my story out.

ReplyDeleteI'm commenting from a slightly different point of view... much younger in the game... whats it been? like a year and a half if we don't include those first two I did then didn't record anything else for a minute...
You mentioned wanting to be signed... Theres a few reasons for me... Fans being the first... Having someone tell you they love your music and would buy your cd... I can't even describe that feeling, atleast how it made me feel... and i'm not talking about playing your music for friends and people saying that... I mean people online sending you messages... asking if its up for sale anywhere yet... asking if they can get on a contact list for when its available... Crazy feeling for me...
Then theres validation... Theres some people out there who act as if unless i'm signed my music means nothing... some people i even know personally... its like no matter what, even if the song is rocking... they're like yea but it aint on the radio... in some peoples eyes you're not a valid artist until you're signed... so that means the only way for me to prove myself to some is to get signed... So now thats just another goal on my long list...
but i'ma leave it at that for now... yall know i be writing for ever... too much in my head..
